What is LARP?
LARP stands for Live Action Role Play.
Similar to tabletop RPGs, in that there is a combination of improvisation, acting, and storytelling, however with live action you would become the character.
People get dressed up, run around and role play all, while being fully immersed in their character.
Many LARPs also have varying styles of combat, using PVC and latex weapons, so there will be sword-fighting, throwing packets to replicate the casting of spells, defending yourself with a shield, and more.
Where and how do I start?
Our amazing New Player Liaison teams have created an easier guide as a starting point; including detailing how you can get a character sheet, and guidance on how to create your characters’ backstory.

What kind character can I play? / What is a PC?
PCs, or Player Characters, are the focus of Armonia’s story. They range from noble warriors, to wizened wizards, to eccentric alchemist, to cunning rogues, and to many places in between. As you roleplay your Player Character, you are the hero of your own story.
Crucible, Armonia’s ruleset, offers many ways to build your persona. With 30 player heritages and a completely modular skills system, options are limitless; with dozens of ways to combine the combat skills, styles, and magic schools.
This means there are so many ways to make your character unique and designed to be someone you would love to role play as.

What costuming will I need?
It truly varies on the type of role you plan on taking for an event.
NPCing: NPC camp provides costuming. For your base layer of clothing, we recommend you bring neutral/earth-toned colours, or black, logo free, shirts and sweaters.
PCing: Start as easy as canvas pants, and a neutral coloured shirt, if you would like! You can find some very interesting finds at second hand stores, which can be a more cost-effective way to create your own style.
General: It is most important to make sure to bring weather appropriate clothing to go along with your costuming (long underwear, rain gear) and footwear (strong ankle support recommended, multiple pairs of socks, water resistant).
Certain Heritages will require wearing specific costuming, such as makeup, jewelry, and/or prosthetics (facial prosthetics, elf ears, horns, tusks, etc).
What are packets?
Packets are made with a 6x6in piece of fabric with about 2 ounces of finch birdseed, which are then tied with an elastic.
They are the physical representation for casting magic and arrows. They can be thrown, and won’t cause natural harm if they burst open – in fact the local forest critters have stolen them, knowing they are full of birdseed.

What sort of LARP weapons should I get / make?
This varies on the type of combat style you would like to play.
NPCing: NPC camp provides various weapons, and has many packets.
PCing: We recommend taking a look through the rulebook on our Discord. It outlines the guidelines for approved weapon types and lengths, as well as what the base damage would be with them.
Where can I read the rules?
Our Rulebook, created and owned by some of our very own player base, is accessible on Discord.
You can join our Discord here!
If you would like a copy sent to you, you can most certainly contact us, however the rules are frequently revised with updates published as needed for corrections, which are updated to Discord.

I have medical limitations – can I still LARP?
Of course! We here at Armonia LARP understand that there may be many reasons in which someone cannot participate in combat; be it of medical nature or otherwise.
A part of our rules includes the use of a yellow headband, which indicates if someone is a non-combatant. This however does not mean that you are invulnerable to combat; merely that you will not be physically hit with weapons. You can still be hit with packets, or while within sword length be “dropped” – you will be able to use your own defenses, and/or those around you may also defend you.
Can I come watch?
If you would like to come for a day, we do not allow people to just come and watch, as that would greatly disrupt the immersion of the event – instead we would highly encourage you come and play!
If you are unsure of starting your own character, we also always appreciate those who help out behind the scenes by being an NPC.

Is there an age-limit?
Members of Armonia range in age, with some people in their 60’s and others in their mid-late teens.
For everyone’s safety, we do however have guidelines:
✦ Ages 15-17: Parental or guardian consent is required found here, which can be filled out and emailed to armoniaboardofdirectors@gmail.com.
✦ Ages 12-14: May partake in all aspects of the game, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
✦ Ages Younger than 12: Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and are considered a non-combatant; only allowed to partake in role play.
✦ Players with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
For every new player, we also have a 15-minute combat safety session, which is mandatory.
Can I come for a part of the event?
You most certainly can!
When you register for an event, there is actually a question that asks if you are staying for the whole event or otherwise.

What sort of sleeping arrangements are there?
Armonians have come to appreciate the use of campsites, with heated cabins, bunk beds, and power. Recommended gear to bring would still include: Sleeping bag/blankets, pillows, comfortable sleepwear.
When you fill out our registration survey, there will be an option for if you are okay with an unheated cabin (which still has power, to plug in space heaters, especially for colder months).
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
Check out our Contact Us page to see which team you should be getting in touch with based on the questions you may have.
We also have many resources on Discord, including our amazing society of people.
